      Maruti Suzuki considers raising workers wages of Gurgaon plant in double digits

      The wages of the workers employed at the Gurgaon plant of country’s leading auto giant, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., may ramp up this year in double digits after the last increment made in the year 2009 to the tune of 5 to 6 percent. The company’s wage policy states that the wages are to be revised once in two to three years.

      The auto maker is currently considering favorably the proposal forwarded by the workers’ union, composing 3000 permanent employees at its Gurgaon plant, which comprises of their demand for a double digit hike in wages. The workers’ union at the company’s Manesar plant is also being reformed and the deliberations will be initiated by them with the management in the next month.

      In the calendar year 2011, the company faced forceful shutdown at its Manesar plant due to persistent strikes and lockouts. The production saw a standstill and the quantum of output lost was around 1.06 Lakh units postponing the implementation of launch of new cars. The company witnessed a dip in the sales volume by 14% registering a sale of 888794 units during the period April’11 to January’12.

      Mr. Mayank Pareek, Managing Executive Officer- Marketing & Sales, MSI was quoted as saying, "We expect some positive recovery in the last quarter because customer traffic increased in our showrooms, and a higher delivery of diesel cars will cut the huge backlog."

      However, the sales started surging with the beginning of the year 2012 and after having difficult year in 2011, Maruti Suzuki is all geared up to eliminate all issues hindering production at Gurgaon and Manesar plant.
