      Maruti registers 15.5 percent jump in sales during February 2011

      Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the largest car maker in the Indian market, has registered a 15.51 percent jump in sales during February, 2011. The car maker managed to sell a total of 1,11,645 units of its cars during this month as compared to 96,650 units sold in the same month last year.

      In the domestic market, where the company accounts for about 50 percent share, it registered a 19.79 per cent increase during February. The company sold a total of 1,01,543 units in the Indian market during this month as compared to 84,765 units sold in the February, 2010.

      However, company exports dipped by about 15 percent to 10,102 units as compared to 11,885 units dispatched to the overseas markets in the same month last year.

      The sales of company’s oldest and one of the largest sold cars – Maruti 800 – stood at 2,712 units as compared to 3,178 units sold in the February 2010, registering a decline of 14.66 percent.

      At the same time, the sales of A2 segment of cars of the company (comprising Alto, WagonR, Estilo, Swift, A-Star and Ritz) saw a 19.39 percent growth to 72,090 units as compared to 60,380 units sold in the same month a year ago. The A3 segment of cars (including SX4 and Dzire) jumped by 27.01 percent to 13,024 units from to 10,254 units in the corresponding period a year ago.

      MSI's total passenger car sales rose by 19.02 percent to 87,851 units in February from 73,812 units in the same month of 2010, it added.
