The market for motorcycles in India is quite vast, be it in terms of sales, production volumes or the customer base. In circumstances like these, it is really tough for a model making debut to carve a niche for itself. The presence of so many competitors and complex consumer parameters make the Indian bike market a challenging arena where succeeding is a little difficult. Mahindra Two Wheelers, relatively new in the bike vertical, has gone on to exceed expectations through its Centuro model. In a short span of time, Mahindra Centuro has become one of the best selling models in the market, sources have claimed. This feat can be considered quite incredible as firms like Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp and Honda are going pretty strong, registering excellent sales figures continuously. According to experts, Mahindra Two Wheelers has taken a giant leap in the market by launching the Centuro.

Sources suggest that the Indian firm has put in a lot of effort while conceptualising, developing and producing Mahindra Centuro. Technology has been the main focus for the team working at Mahindra Two Wheelers' Research and Development Centre, which is located in Pune. Extensive research and planning have gone into designing this product, which is stylish, lightweight and efficient. The result of efforts put in by the firm have resulted in four global technology patents, which the firm received recently. All these technologies are included in Centuro and have attracted a number of buyers. The success of this model was predicted quite sometime before its launch, which took place in July, 2013. Experts had said that the combination of technology, high fuel-economy and affordability have worked for Mahindra Centuro.

Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, spoke about the firm's plans on the launch of this motorcycle. “The new Mahindra Centuro is a class-defining product that aims to address the inherent needs of the Indian consumer in the two wheeler segment. It has been completely engineered around the consumer and his needs and is, in fact, a physical manifestation of what we perceive as „Customer Inspired Technology‟. The Centuro is testimony to our determination to emerge as a serious player in the high volume commuter segment and resonates with our presence in the highly competitive Moto GP motorcycle racing championship,” he said.

To say the least, Mahindra Centuro has lived up to the expectations of its manufacturer and has struck a chord with customers throughout the country. This motorcycle runs on an intelligent MCi-5 (Micro Chip Ignited - 5 curve) engine, which has the ability to generate an output of around 8.5 bhp along with peak torque of 8.5 Nm. Incredibly, this bike delivers a fuel economy of 85.4 kmpl (ARAI claimed figure). However, the highlight of the Centuro is its technological sophistication, which includes features anti-theft alarm with engine immobiliser, encrypted remote flip key and distance-to-empty (DTE) indicator.
