Auto component industry in Gurgaon is facing severe problems due to labour unrest. A Gurgaon-based auto component company specifically faces intense problems as the unrest left a worker dead and six other seriously injured. 200 workers have been staging protest at the RICO factory in Gurgaon claiming that management was responsible for aggravating violence.

RICO has been seeing labour unrest for the past one month. While the workers want to form a union, the management is not heeding to their demand saying the workers have had pay hikes and the unit is continuously seeing low productivity.

Amidst 3500 workers, some of them wanted to go back to work. Thus a clash broke out in the factory on Sunday between workers who were on strike and those who wanted to get back to work. The situation soon spun out of control with violence and arson that left a worker dead.

Other auto manufacturers and auto component manufacturers have also been experiencing a fall in the production although there was no strike-like situation. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has seen its production fall to almost half in recent weeks. A company official said that there is no strike but the "go slow" has meant that a third production line - which was scheduled to begin operations from September one - has been postponed. Sunbeam Auto which is also a major parts supplier to large OEMs such as Maruti Suzuki India and Hero Honda Motors is also reeling under a strike.
