Kia Motors Corp, a leading Korean car maker which is a unit of Hyundai, is recalling over 70,000 Optima sedans in the US market due to a problem in the hand brake cable. According to the company there is a possibility of incorrect installation of shift cable in the Optima sedans that can cause a parked vehicle to roll-away.

The company said in a notice to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration on Friday that there have been no reported injuries to any customer due to this defect.

The Optima sedans that have been recalled include models manufactured in the period of September 2005 to June 2007 and sold in the year 2006 through 2008. The recall affects a total of 70,115 vehicles.

Meanwhile, Kia Motors has shelved its plans of entering the Indian market "Our hands are full right now. Currently we are not looking at India but concentrating on other overseas markets where we aim to produce over 1 million cars this year. We will, however, continue to monitor the Indian market as it holds sizeable potential and may be on our future radar,” as per a statement given by company spokesman Michael J Choo.
