The official brochure of the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander has been leaked online ahead of its launch. Published on a Japanese website, the brochure reveals all the cosmetic updates and mechanical changes made to the SUV. Based on the Mitsubishi’s new design language, the new-generation Outlander will look as premium as the Montero SUV.
The updated model gets a new “Dynamic Shield” X-shaped front bumper, larger LED taillights and revised rear bumper. The chassis, too, is altered for structural robustness and rigidity. The 2016 Outlander gets better sound insulation with improved NVH levels, engine compartment trim, weather stripping and use of lots of sound-proof material in the cabin. It also receives a noise insulating windshield.
For better acceleration and handling, Mitsubishi has equipped a CVT (continuously variable transmission) and an electric power steering on the SUV. However, the powertrain remains unchanged. The 2016 Outlander will continue to be powered with a 2.4-litre MPI MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-Timing Electronic Control System) petrol engine that develops a maximum power of 170PS with 226Nm of torque at 4, 100rpm.
Initially, the Japanese automaker will offer a petrol variant, which is expected to launch by the end of 2015. Though the diesel model will come in 2016. Upon its launch, the new-gen Mitsubishi will rival against the new Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-Trail and Honda CR-V.
The same model will also come to India along with other four new cars that Mitsubishi is planning for India.
