Recent reports have suggested that India's second largest car maker, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), has undertaken the production of LPG model of its A-segment small car Eon. The said variant is expected to find a place at the company's stall during the 11th edition of New Delhi Auto Expo.

Hyundai has further plans of launching this version in the coming few months. A factory-fitted LPG kit has been affixed to the Eon and the car is also expected to carry the 32-litre petrol tank. The kit has probably got a green signal from Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and moreover, will hold a warranty period.

Hyundai Eon entered the Indian automobile market in October 2011 carrying a petrol engine only. However Hyundai had indicated to bring variety in the car with LPG variant making its way to the Indian market during the arrival of 2012. The second option of fuel arrangement for the A-segment small car would undoubtedly aid Hyundai to give further push to the already high sales figures of Eon.

As a matter of fact, the company started with the export process of Eon petrol, which is manufactured at its plant in Chennai, during December 2011, with Algeria being the first country to receive the exported Eon. However, officials at HMIL said that exports of the company fell down by 7.7 per cent to 19,433 units during December as compared to the 21,060 units that were disseminated during previous year.

Hyundai Motor India Limited registered a 3.6 per cent hike in its total sales in December 2011, touching the 48,949 units figure, as against December 2010 when the car maker managed to sell 47,228 units.

Showing consistency in the domestic market too, Hyundai Motor India Limited witnessed a 12.8 per cent increase to 29,516 units in December 2011 as compared to 26,168 units during the same period last year.

Hyundai seems to be using the variety quotient to attract maximum buyers in the market. Moreover, with the price of Eon being highly competitive, the small car is expected to compete with much confidence in India.
