Much to the amazement of super bike makers, nearly 10 percent of the sales of super bikes in India come from places like Dehradun and Guawahti. Highlanders in semi-urban and rural places of India prefer super bikes to maintain their status quo. Bajaj Auto launched Kawasaki range of premium bikes in India recently. Yamaha, Ducati, Harley Davidson and Honda are other major players that sell premium motorbikes in the domestic market.

Bike makers have introduced personalised services in these mountainous regions such as on-spot troubleshooting looking at the rise in demand for such premium bikes. Apart from this increase in disposable income has been one of the main reasons in urban and semi-urban parts of India has led to sales of such bikes. “We have special teams to service these bikes across the country. This has boosted the confidence of the consumer, and this has translated into better sales,” said Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India head (marketing & sales) NK Rattan.

According to Yamaha and Honda, regions of north India and north-eastern India are one of the few emerging favourable markets for such premium bikes that cost anywhere above Rs. 10 lakh.
