General Motors today reported an increase in its domestic sales by 6.57 percent at 5,789 units in May against 5,432 units in the same month last year. According to the Vice President of General Motors, "The industry has seen some growth primarily driven by new models, however, the overall market sentiment remains sluggish. The market is also worried because of the steady increase in inflation which has lead to a sudden surge in input costs for all manufacturers."

The company sold 1667 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1214, units of sedan and hatchback Chevrolet Aveo and AVeo U-VA. It also sold 383 units of Chevrolet Optra which is the luxury sedan from General Motors. GM’s small car segment showcased maximum sales of 2250 as it sold its small car Chevrolet Spark. Lastly, Chevrolet Captiva reflected sales of 275 units in May 2008.

General Motors India was launched in 1994 as a fifty-fifty joint venture company. It has now plans to expand its network to 125 sales outlets and 135 service outlets. It further plans to add more products to its portfolio apart from strengthening its sales network in India.
