Sales figures for the last month are out and nearly every car maker is rejoicing. Hyundai’s domestic sales figures jumped 93% to 28,162 cars in November compared with the same month last year. This has been Hyundai’s highest ever sales growth ever since it made its foray in the Indian market a decade ago. “The base effect of lower sales last year has led to a major jump in numbers but the overall economic scenario has changed in the past one year and translated into more footfalls in our showroom,” said Arivnd Saxena, Hyundai’s Senior Vice-President (Marketing & Sales).

Honda Siel Cars did not post a double digit growth but recorded only marginal 2 percent growth at 5,125 units in November 2009 against 5,025 units in the same month last year. Honda has launched third-generation Honda City which has crossed cumulative 50,000 units since its launch 12 months back.

General Motors recorded the highest sales growth amongst all car manufacturers at 65.27 percent to 7,118 cars against 4,307 sold in the same month last year. Ford India posted 13.5 percent y-o-y sales growth in November 2009 at 2520 units against 2219 unit in the same month last year. “It has been an exciting month with the Ford Ikon being ranked No 1 by J.D Power's New Vehicle Initial Quality 2009 study in the entry mid size segment and the sales growing on a year on year basis, we will continue to leverage the momentum gained and build on as we get ready for the launch of the Ford Figo,” said Nigel Wark, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford India.
