      Ford India sales dip 12.79 percent in May 2011

      The Indian unit of US based leading car maker Ford, which had been reporting whopping growth figures since last one year, has registered a dip of 12.79 per cent in the month of May. The company managed to sell a total of 7,046 units during the month as compared to 8,080 units sold in the same month last year.

      However, in the five months period of January –May 2011, the company sold a total of 51,420 units of its cars in the country, registering a growth of 71 percent over the units sold in the same period last year.

      Ford India also commenced the exports of its popular compact hatchback Figo to Bahrain and Kenya, this month.

      Ford had recently announced to invest heavily (USD 72 million) in its India operations, in a bid to boost its market shares as well as footprints in the country. The investment will also be used to expand company’s engine production facility in Chennai. As per a recent statement given by Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham, "From growing our product portfolio and expanding our presence, Ford's commitment to India has only deepened with time."
