Fiat India, the Indian unit of the Italian car maker Fiat, is gearing-up to roll-out a new car in the volume driven small car segment in the country. The company is speculated to be planning to launch a new car in the A+ or B segment, where it will be competing with the likes of Chevrolet Spark, Hyundai Santro Xing, Maruti Alto K10 and Wagon R.

As per industry reports, Fiat’s prospective small car is already in the final stage of its development and will probably hit the Indian roads in year 2012.

At present, Fiat India major sales are from two car models in the Indian market including compact hatchback Fiat Grande Punto and mid-size sedan Fiat Linea. However, despite having these highly competitive cars in its portfolio, the company is registering limited sales figures due to weak sales and service network.

The launch of a new small car will not only power the company’s India portfolio, but will also enable the company to strengthen its position in the Indian market through enhancing its market share. Moreover, the company also plans to restructure its sales and service network. Currently, the company sells its cars through JV partner Tata Motors’ dealerships in the Indian market.
