      CNG Cars in India - Hyundai EON and Maruti Suzuki Alto 800

      The CNG variants of various cars have made quite an impressive performance in the Indian automobile market. The popularity of CNG cars has increased due to the growing concerns about pollution. Also, the maintenance costs of CNG cars are comparatively low. This has worked in favour of such cars. Two such cars, which have made quite a statement in this segment, are the variants of Hyundai EON and Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.

      Both the cars have been tagged at a comparative price; while EON has a tag of Rs. 3.8 lakhs, the price tag of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is Rs. 3.7 lakhs. EON is powered by an 814 cc 9V bifuel engine, which powers the car to 55.2 bhp at the rate of 5500 rpm. The torque output of the model is 74.5 Nm at the rate of 4000 rpm. EON has beenprovided with FWD and power is sent to the wheels using a five speed transmission system.

      On the other hand, Alto 800 CNG uses a 796 cc 9V F8D mill, which powers the car to 47.3 bhp at the rate of 6000 rpm. The maximum torque of the car is 69 Nm at the rate of 3500 rpm. It is also provided with FWD as well as five-speed manual gearing system. Both the cars have a turning radius of 4.6 metres, which make it ideal for the Indian road conditions. Alto 800 can rev up to a maximum of 140 kilometres per hour. As far as the mileage is concerned, Alto 800 returns 28.29 kilometres on city roads and 30.46 kilometres on highways per kilogram of fuel. EON returns 17 kilometres on city roads and 21.1 kilometres on highways for a kilogram fuel.
