At the unveiling event of the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV and Spin MPV, General Motors India has confirmed that it’s working on a new compact sedan that will be based on the popular Beat hatchback. The all-new Chevrolet Beat compact sedan will be based on the new-gen Beat hatchback, which is expected to come in 2017. It will share some styling cues and the engine with its hatchback sibling. Powering the all-new compact sedan will be the Beat’s 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder SDE diesel engine that delivers a maximum power of 56.3bhp at 4000rpm, while yielding a peak torque of 142.5Nm at 1750rpm. Transmission options on offer will be a manual and an automatic.

General Motors has also confirmed an investment of USD 1 billion (Rs. 6,400 crore) on a new model lineup for growing markets like India. The company is likely to introduce 10 new locally manufactured models in India in the next five years. Though, the next Chevy product to roll out in the market is the Trailblazer premium SUV that will be launched in October, 2015. Power for the SUV will come from a 2.8-litre, Duramax diesel engine that puts out a maximum power of 200bhp and 500Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
