Chevrolet Tavera, one of the most popular MUV’s (multi utility vehicles), in the Indian market, is expected to be launched in a new BS-IV compatible version in the Indian market soon. As per industry sources, the company is expected to acquire a BS-IV compliant 2.0L CRDi engine for Tavera from Sonalika. The engine is already powering Sonalika’s Rhino model in the Indian market with a maximum power figure of 123 bhp.
It is to be mentioned here that the Chevrolet Tavera model was discontinued from 13 major Indian cities in April 2010, following the government’s decision of implementing new generation BS-IV emission norms in these cities. The Tavera model was then limitedly available in remaining Indian cities where the BS-III emission norms are applicable.
As per the industry speculations, the new BS-IV compliant Tavera model, which would powered by a 2.0L engine, is expected to be priced in the segment of sub Rs.8.00 lakh. At present, the Tavera model comes powered by a 2.5 liter engine in BS-III compliant cities.
The Tavera model is currently competing with the likes of Mahindra Bolero and Xylo, Toyota Innova and Tata Aria.
