BMW has announced its electric scooter under its MINI brand. It will showcase the production ready model at the upcoming Paris Auto Show. The scooter offers the promise of convenient, green transport, particularly for people living in cities as BMW calls it “young urban generation” model. It also uses the owner’s smart phone as a key in order to offer the satnav communication and entertainment . Once the smartphone is plugged in, it'll serve as the scooter's central display, allowing drivers to consult GPS data without ever having to take their hands off the bars. A Bluetooth-equipped helmet will meanwhile enable users to make hands-free calls.

The electric motor is placed behind the rear wheel, and its driving range is estimated at around 62 miles. Top speed is 50 kmph. One of the most important features is that the battery can be charged via any standard electrical household outlet.

Another two-seater scooter, borrowing design elements from MINI's E hatchback prototype, will be shown at next week's Paris Motor Show along with a single-seater "sporty" version finished in British Racing Green.
