BMW is going to launch the new 5 Series in India on 29 June. Expected to be priced between Rs 55 lakh and Rs 65 lakh, the 5 Series will be offered in three trims - 520i, 520d and the 530d.

      2017 BMW 5 Series

Based on a new OKL platform, the 2017 BMW 5 Series is currently in its seventh generation and is internally called G30. The chassis has been constructed out of a mix of carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), magnesium and aluminium, thus helping it shed almost 100kg over the outgoing model. The styling is still characteristic BMW, although the LED lamps and the revised kidney grille give it a fresher look.

The new BMW 5 Series is significantly bigger than its predecessor. The longer wheelbase has improved the cabin space for the occupants’ comfort. The new iDrive system now supports gesture control. It allows you to change the ambient lighting, vehicle setup, audio setup and other settings through the rotary knob, touchscreen or the steering mounted controls. The intelligent remote key fob of the new 5 Series can help you move your car from the outside, in to a straight line.

While the base petrol and diesel models get four-cylinder engines, the top-spec 530d gets a 3.0-litre straight six. The new BMW 5 Series will compete against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and the Volvo S90.
