      Audi India honoured Baichung Bhutia on his farewell match

      Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi had the honour of organising the Audi Football Summit on 10th January 2012. Football fans gathered in huge numbers to watch the match between India and Germany’s FC Bayern Munchen. It was the last match of Baichung Bhutia who is India’s most revered and popular football player.

      FC Bayern Munchen, 22 times Bundesliga and 4 times UEFA champion, defeated India by 4-0. Mario Gomez, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Mueller scored from Germany’s side. Though India lost the match, fans had primarily turned out to bid farewell to their favourite player, Baichung Bhutia.

      During the post-match conference, Michael Perschke, Managing Director, Audi India stated, “Delhi proved that it loves football and I would like to thank the football fans in the Capital and NCR for supporting the Audi Football Summit. Both teams showed good sportsmanship. We also wish Baichung good luck for his future.”

      On Baichung’s last match, Audi India presented him with a compact crossover SUV, Audi Q5. This Audi model has lot in common with the player as it is classy, sporty and agile just like Baichung. At the time of giving the farewell speech, Baichung praised All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Audi India for organising this match. He said, “I would like to thank Audi India and AIFF for getting Bayern to play my last international match.”
