AMG, Mercedes-Benz’s uber nuts tuner division, has announced that it will stop producing the RWD version of the E63 sedan and wagon from its next generation. This is due to the fact that more than 90 per cent of the super sedan’s buyers have opted for 4MATIC AWD model.
While the move has made AMG purists unhappy, it looks like the company will bow in favour of newer buyers. This next generation E63, which is expected to be based on latest W213 model, will get a completely new AWD system and a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that is expected to produce 571bhp in standard form and in S guise 612bhp. It will have a top speed of 250kmph and a 0-100kmph time of 3.5 seconds.
As is the case with every AMG E-Class, it is expected to be subtle in terms of looks but will pack a monster punch underneath. This permanent AWD option means Mercedes-Benz will be to take the fight directly to Audi’s S and RS range.
