Japanese auto giant ToyotaMotors Corp will be introducing its low cost carToyota Etiosalso to Thailand, besides looking to selling it in other Asian countries like India, China and Brazil as well. Interestingly, this new car is aimed only at emerging markets and not planned for launch in developed markets.

In a Thailand interview, Yukitoshi Funo, Executive Vice President of Toyota said. “We have to enter the large-volume zone in emerging markets”. Toyota enjoys a rapid growth in sales in Thailand and it is the leading auto brand in the country.

In a Tokyo interview Funo added, ““We want to provide a car that is in reach of working people. Unlike NissanMotor Co’s March and Micra compacts designed for both developed and emerging markets, Toyota’s low-cost car will target “a newly emerging middle class in developing countries.”

Toyota plans to release its cost effective five-door hatchback Etios in India in December 2010. The cost of this unit will be somewhere near 4.50 lacs and the sedan version of Etios will be somewhere around 5.30 lacs.

Since China is the world’s largest auto market, Toyota believes that introducing cheaper car models in China would boom company’s sales further. In 2010, Toyota had only a 6.9 percent market share in China whereas German carmaker VolkswagenAG has 13 percent share in China.
