Hyundai, the renowned automobile giant has registered increase in its domestic sales despite decrease in its export percentage. In March 2012, the company sold 39,122 units of vehicles in India. The domestic car market of Hyundai seems quite positive due to which the company has diverted its export lines towards that direction. Out of 59,229 total units sold, the exports figure for March accounted for 20,107 units, which were 23,730 units during the same period in 2011.

Director Marketing and Sales, HMIL, Mr. Arvind Saxena, said, “We could meet our expectations in March as there was considerable interest to beat the expected price hike in the Union Budget. The market continues to pose many challenges; things can improve if interest rates come down this quarter.”

At present, Hyundai sells eight passenger car models in India across segments. Eon, Santro, i10, and the i20 come in the A2 segment whereas Accent and the Verna are sold under the A3 segment. Sonata, the premium luxury sedan falls in the A5 segment whereas the Santa Fe is placed in SUV segment. With 51,336 units’ sales, the A2 segment continues to dominate the total sales figure of the car marker.

The company expects to attain higher domestic sales figures in the coming months with the launch of the new Hyundai i20. Age old Accent and popular fluidic Verna are still doing well in the compact sedan segment. Some contributions have also been made by the upper segment Santa Fe and Sonata.
