Unlike international markets where automatic cars are more popular and preferred than manual trims, the Indian car users have rather shied away from automatic cars owing to concerns over high cost of ownership. With the recently introduced AMT technology that claims better fuel efficiency, people are indeed considering it as a good option. Moreover, with growing awareness about the new technology, customers have been more accepting towards this new technology. Going by current trend only about 1% or 2% passenger cars in the country are sold with an AMT technology and fresh reports from sources has indicated that the numbers may rise to about 30% by 2020.

Speaking more on the occasion, Saju Mookken, Managing Director and Country Manager, said, "It took three years for the company to convince carmakers in India to use the AMT kit, but it is now facing a supply crunch because of huge demand. Looking at the traffic congestion and increase in young self-driver buyers, it will certainly grow. Currently, around one to two per cent of total passenger vehicles would have automated transmission, but I expect this to increase to 30 per cent by 2020. It will be mostly commanded by the AMT solution."

AMT cars unlike Automatic cars are known to deliver even better fuel efficiency as compared to a manual version. Speaking on the pricing aspect, a customer may only end up spending an additional 40000 – 50000 for the AMT over the standard trim. Congested city roads can really test a driver's patience and it is exactly for times such as these when would would desire that you had a car with AMT technology.
