      Jaguar Land Rover, the British premium sports and luxury car maker, launched its much awaited beast of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), the 2013 Range Rover on Indian turf on November 30, 2012. The latest Land Rover is offered to domestic car enthusiasts at a price bracket between Rs. 1.72 crore and Rs. 1.84 crore, which makes it the most expensive premium SUV available on Indian turf.

      Expressing his views regarding the new Range Rover, Rohit Suri, Vice President (VP), Jaguar and Land Rover India, said, “The new Range Rover offers an unparalleled special blend of luxury, performance and unmatched all-terrain capability - It's clever design and revolutionary lightweight construction will give Indian customers a product that will cope with the most difficult of terrains and provide a step change in comfort, refinement and handling.”

      Reportedly, the all new Land Rover Range Rover incorporates world's first wholly aluminium based monocoque body design, which has enabled the stylish premium SUV to shed close to 400 kg of its gross weight. The lighter Range Rover has become more powerful than ever and boasts off a previously unforeseen agility and performance. Further, light design entails the beast to deliver superior driving experience and fuel efficiency. The company claims its new product to feature an unmatched comfort and security characteristics as compared to its direct competitors.

      The freshly launched 2013 Range Rover premium SUV is believed to be competing against the likes of Porsche Cayenne and Toyota Landcruiser. Coming to under the hood specifications, petrol version of the all new Land Rover Range Rover is assimilated with a 5.0 litre, V8 supercharged power-mill that pumps out a mammoth power and torque output equation of 503 bhp and 620 Nm, respectively. Further, the diesel variant of latest Range Rover to scorch Indian roads, comes fitted with a giant of a 4.4 litre TDV8 diesel powertrain, which churns out an enormous power output of 335 bhp and an astounding torque delivery of 700 Nm. The engine assemblies in both petrol and diesel models have been equipped with the world class eight speed ZF automatic transmission system.

      The Toyota Landcruiser has been incorporated with a 4.5 litre, 4461 cc, 32 valve, V8 diesel DOHC powerplant, mated with a 6 speed automatic transmission system. The 4.5 litre powerhouse churns out a power output of 262 bhp along with an incredible torque delivery of 650 Nm. On the other hand, premium SUV Porsche Cayenne features a 3.6 litre, V6 powertrain that rolls out a peak power of 300 bhp and maximum torque of 400 Nm. Hence, the British made premium SUV wins the race in power and performance attributes, comprehensively against its Japanese and German counterparts.

      Evidently, an acute difference comes up when one considers the pricing of the three considered SUVs. The top end model of Porsche Cayenne is offered to Indian consumers at a price tag of Rs. 1.3 crore, while the Toyota Landcruiser carries a retail value close to Rs. 1 crore. Therefore, the 2013 Range Rover is definitely much more expensive of the lot and even slightly superfluous but in matter of engine performance, the car delivers.
