The Japanese bikemaker, Yamaha will launch the much-anticipated YZF-R3 in India today (August 11, 2015). The Yamaha YZF-R3 that is to rival the KTM RC390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300, will be brought into India via CKD (completely knocked-down unit) route. Just so you know, the bike was first showcased at the 2014 EICMA Motorcycle Show.
The Yamaha YZF R3 is powered by a 320cc twin cylinder, liquid cooled engine that delivers a maximum power of 41bhp at 10,750rpm and a peak torque of 29.5Nm at 9,000rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission. It can achieve 0-60kmph in 2.89 seconds and 0-100kmph in 6 seconds. The bike offers a maximum speed of 187kmph.
Inspired by the Yamaha YZF-R Series, the YZF R3 measures 2.09m long, 720mm wide and 1.13m tall, and sports a wheelbase of 1,380mm. It weighs 169kgs, and has a fuel tank capacity of 14–liters. The 17-inches, 10-spoke alloy wheels with 110/ 70 front and 140/ 70 rear rubber tyres and ground clearance of 160mm make the bike competent to tackle rough Indian roads.
The YZF R3 sports diamond-type frame with telescopic forks up front and monoshock rear suspension unit. For braking purpose, it has 298mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes and an optional anti-lock braking system (ABS). This sportsbike also comes equipped with dual headlights, silencer, a digital analogue console, etc.
The Yamaha YZF R3 is expected to be priced between Rs. 3.5 lakh – Rs. 4 lakh (ex-showroom).
