Wipro Technologies, in order to develop smartphone-based connected-car solutions, has joined the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), which is a global group dedicated to developing standards and solutions for smartphone and in-vehicle connectivity. The IT wing of Wipro limited said that its membership at CCC was aimed to developing smartphone based connected car solutions.

John Slosar, General Manager, Automotive Electronics, Wipro Technologies said, “We’ve been working on similar technology for more than two years and have built solutions for interfacing with terminal mode and non-terminal mode mobile devices. Membership in the Car Connectivity Consortium is the logical next step in our endeavour to create the best driving experience for consumers.”

In the automotive space, Wipro provides solutions for infotainment & telematics systems apart from instrument clusters, power train & engine management systems and body electronics. The company has more than 15,000 engineers working with its Engineering R&D and Product Engineering Services. R&D Services alone contributed 12.4 per cent of Wipro's overall IT services revenue in Financial Year 2011-12.

The members of the CCC consist of leaders in mobile communications, auto manufacturing and consumer electronics. With Wipro Technologies joining CCC, now an Indian IT giant is a part of Car Connectivity Consortium.

Mika Rythkonen, chairman and president of the CCC said, “Like all our members, Wipro has demonstrated vision and foresight by supporting MirrorLink. Wipro is a world leader in product engineering solutions and we look forward to the company's contributions to the connected car industry."
