Volkswagen to Launch Beetle in India

Volkswagen may launch its car, Beetle in India soon. It was the car launched for the masses by Volkswagen. Launching of Beetle is in line with Volkswagen's aggressive plans to acquire larger market share in India. Volkswagen wants to make up for the lost time due to its late entry in the country and plans to invest in its manufacturing unit as well to boost its capacity for volume cars.

"Beetle is an iconic brand and the profile of the customer the world over for this car is upwardly mobile and well travelled and those who wants to be different. We see a segment of those customers in India," Volkswagen Passenger Cars India Managing Director Makham Dhalivaal said.

Beetle would also be brand building exercise for the company which plans to adopt the top down approach for its marketing in India. This means that it plans to launch luxury models prior to its compact car models in India. Beetle is currently being manufactured in Mexico for VW's supplied around the world. It has recently launched its mid-size sedan Jetta in India has got overwhelming response to the car. It aims to sell 1200 units of Jetta and 500 units of Passat, its upper end sedan, this year.

Volkswagen is also planning to enter the pre-owned car market to poach customers from other brands. It plans to open pre-owned car outlets so that customers can trade their old car models from other car makers with Volkswagen's models.
