In a bid to tap the increasing opportunities in the Indian market, the Germany based leading car maker Volkswagen has decided to roll-out product line-up of iconic luxury car maker Porsche in the Indian market next year. A new team of Volkswagen will be taking care of sales of Porsche cars in India.

As per the recent media reports, which are yet to be confirmed by the car maker, Volkswagen will import the popular Porsche models like, Boxter, 911, Cayman, Panemera and sports utility vehicle Cayenne. Initially, these car models will be imported as completely built units (CBUs), and the company may look to assemble these models in locally in India once the volume increases. All these Porsche cars will be sold in the Indian market under the banner of Volkswagen in the price segment of Rs 70 lakh to 3 crore.

Volkswagen AG currently sells its cars in India under three brands including Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi. The automaker accounts for a market share of about 5 percent, to which it is planning to boost aggressively in coming years.

At present, there are approximately 8 Porsche outlets in the Indian market. Now, it is expected that the new structure of Porsche will be somewhat similar to the structure of Audi in India, which has five main departments including marketing, sales, after sales, dealer development and press communications. The firm would be initially operating with a team of 15 to 18 members.
