News has been emerging that popular component and wheel makers ThyssenKrupp Carbon Components and Maxion Wheels have been collaboratively working on developing ultra-lightweight aluminium and carbon fibre hybrid wheels for leading automakers. The companies have reportedly been working with Volkswagen Group to test the prototype wheels on one the brand’s vehicle.
The companies have claimed that the prototype wheels have been designed for use on crossovers and luxury cars. Moreover, it reportedly offers over 40% of weight saving as compared to traditional High-Performance forged aluminium wheels. Speaking more on the occasion, ThyssenKrupp Carbon Components Managing Director Dr. Jens Werner, said to Maxion Wheels, “The cooperation agreement with Maxion Wheels marks an important milestone in the development of our carbon fibre wheel technology. It shows the technological maturity we have reached and combines our innovations with the leading player in the wheel industry.”
