Volkswagen, the domestic arm of German auto maker, seems to be preparing for the launch of Cross Polo in the Indian auto market somewhere in August this year. Reportedly, the model has been spotted several times doing test runs near Mumbai and Pune, which clearly indicates that its launch is around the corner. The Cross Polo happens to be a muscular model of the regular Polo and will feature few cosmetic changes at the exteriors, in order to make the car look bigger.
Key highlights at exteriors will include plastic cladding on sides, roof rails, taller wheels and big-sized bumpers at both front and rear. It must be noted that these changes are almost identical to what was spotted on the Skoda Fabia Scout. Interestingly, interiors of the Polo Cross are not much changed than the standard version of the model. Coming to the technical configuration of the upcoming hatch, Polo Cross is expected to come in an option of either one diesel or two petrol engines. One of the petrol engine options will be the 1.2 litre TSI engine, which will have the potential to churn out a maximum power of 103 bhp. Reportedly, the same engine was packed within the Polo GT. Adding to the performance of this engine, an option of either five-speed manual or the seven-speed DSG gearbox is expected to come in the Polo Cross.
Industry experts are of a view that Volkswagen has decided to introduce Polo Cross in the Indian auto market as there has been a sudden surge in the demand for crossovers in the domestic market. It seems that the German auto maker wants to capitalise on the fast growing crossover segment, before witnessing competition from other big players of the market.
