Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the Indian unit of leading Japanese car maker Toyota Motors, announced on Wednesday that it is gearing-up to enhance the production capacity to 2,10,000 units per annum in the Indian market. The company said in a press release issued on the matter that the move of enhancing capacity in India has been taken in a bid to meet the increased demand of its portfolio cars like Innova, Fortuner, Altis and Etios in the Indian market.

TKM had recently announced that it will commence a second shift at its Bangalore plant along with making a reduction in time per vehicle. Moreover, the company is also taking production enhancement measures to enhance the capacity of its first plant to 90,000 units by the third quarter of this year. The company is currently manufacturing Innova, Corolla Altis and Fortuner models at this plant.

Meanwhile, the company has postponed the launch of its much awaited compact hatchback – Etios Liva - till June this year. The car was previously scheduled to be rolled-out in the Indian market in April 2011. The move has been taken in a bid to clear the order backlog of its recently launched sedan model Toyota Etios.
