      Tata Motors registers sales surge of 22 percent in December

      The Indian auto giant Tata Motors has registered a sales surge of 22 percent during the month of December 2011. The total sales of the firm (including both commercial and passenger vehicles) stood at 82,278 units during the month.

      In a press release issued on the company’s monthly sales, the company said that in the domestic market, company's sales for December, 2011, stood at 76,663 units as compared to 61,685 units sold in December last year, accounting for a sales surge of 24 percent.

      However, the company’s exports declined marginally to 5,615 vehicles during this month, as compared to 5,809 units sold in the same month last year.

      The passenger vehicle segment sales in the December 2011 stood at 28,916 units, as compared to 19,699 units sold during December 2010, registering a surge of 47 percent. The company said in a statement that Tata passenger vehicles sales for December 2011, stood at 28,916 units, as compared to 19,699 units sold in December last year, accounted for a growth of 47 per cent . Sales of the Tata Nano stood at 7,466 units, increased by 29 per cent as against 5,784 units sold in December 2010.

      While further elaborating the company’s performance in the commercial vehicle segment, the firm’s statement added, "Light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales were 29,500 units, a growth of 20 per cent compared to 24,558 vehicles sold in December last year. Medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) sales stood at 18,247 units, a growth of 5 per cent, compared to 17,428 vehicles sold in December last year."
