      Tata Motors passenger car sales fall 56 per cent in January 2013

      Tata Motors, the country's largest automobile manufacturer, has announced its latest monthly sales figures for January 2013. The company's recorded a drop of 29.5 per cent in its total sales from domestic and exports businesses at 61,660 units for the last month, which included both Tata passenger and commercial vehicles.

      Tata Motors sold 57,780 units in the Indian auto market in January 2013. The company's cumulative sales (domestic and exports) stood at 675,410 units for the ongoing 2012-13 financial year. As per reports, Tata Motors exported 3,880 units to the overseas auto markets in January 2013. The company's unified sales from exports has been reported at 43,283 units for the ongoing fiscal.

      Tata Motors sold 42,571 units in the commercial vehicle sector, which included 33,849 units in LCV and 8,722 units in M&HCV segments. The company's cumulative sales figures stood at 432,941 units in the commercial vehicle segment.

      Coming to sales recorded in the domestic passenger car market, Tata Motors sold just 15,209 units during January 2013, a drop of 56 per cent as compared to the sales in year-ago period. The company registered sales of 11,192 units of its compact cars- Nano, Indica and Indigo in the Indian auto market. Further, Tata Motors sold 4,017 units of its utility vehicle products, including the likes of Sumo, Aria, Safari and Venture in the domestic market last month. The company's cumulative sales figures of passenger vehicles stood at 199,186 units.

      The January 2013 featured some important milestones from the company's perspective. Tata Motors became first Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer to offer 4 year standard warranty on its entire fleet of heavy trucks, which is unparalleled in the industry. The company also introduced a new model- the Vista D90 premium hatch in the domestic passenger car market last month. Further, Tata Motors also opened the doors of two brand new state-of-the-art retail outlets in Mumbai (Prabhadevi) and New Delhi (South Extension) during January 2013.
