Car racing can give a sudden rush of pleasing adrenalin, but when pursued on uncontrolled conditions like national highways or city streets, the results can be fatal. Vijayawada central based MLA, Bonda Umamaheswara Rao's son Siddartha and his friends seemed to have learned this the hard way when one their vehicles overturned while racing on Highway number 9 from Vijayawada to Edlapadu.
As per sources from the crash site the racing vehicles were over 140 kmpl when one of them crashed. The transport department has also supported this and has stated that based on investigations the vehicle was traveling over 120 km/hr. Due to the accident, 20-year old engineering student, Vijaya Nagendra lost his life. A special Police force team has reportedly arrested Siddartha from his residence along with his friend Sivaram, who reportedly was driving the other vehicle, in connection with the crash in Edlapadu. Both of them have reportedly been arrested under section 304 (a) and 337 of IPC. The locals have raised questions as to why the MLA and his friend have been charged under bailable sections.
The case is under investigation for now and the verdict may come based on study of facts in the court of law. Amar Naik, local break inspector from transport department, could not ascertain the exact speed as the brakes have reportedly been jammed in the accident.
