Czech car maker Skoda Auto is contemplating its options to produce an electric car similar to Volkswagen E-Up. E-Up concept was previewed recently at the Frankfurt Auto Show 2009 and Skoda says the production of such model is not ruled out. Few years from now, Skoda intends to bring its electric car model in the international auto market. Volkswagen E-Up concept car is slated for a launch by December this year. The E-Up will be powered by 18kW batteries that can be charged in five hours, giving a range of 80 miles.

“If VW or Audi develop this technology then it is a great opportunity for Skoda to develop a car like this,” stated a company source to the media, “but they must do it first.”

According to the business venture between Skoda and Volkswagen, if VW E-Up goes on sale this year, then Skoda will have to wait for at least two years before it can launch its similar model in the auto market. The Czech firm is looking to add more flair to each model and an electric model in its product portfolio is necessarily asked for. What remains to be seen is how soon Skoda is able to develop the car and compete in the electric car market.
