The Germany based luxury car maker, Audi, reported sales of 450 cars in May 2012 marking a growth of 10 per cent year-over-year (YoY) basis over 408 units sold in same month last year. With decent sales, the brand with four rings continues to move ahead in the Indian market with a positive outlook. Audi sold 3,281 cars between the tenure of January and May 2012, representing a growth of 37 per cent over the sales of 2,394 units reported in the same period of 2011.

Head, Audi India, Michael Perschke, said, “In 2012, we will continue our strategic course of product expansion and launch attractive vehicles in the market for sustainable and profitable growth. Thanks to our best-sellers new Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi Q5 and Audi Q7 SUVs, and ever growing dealer network, we moved into the number-two position among premium car makers in the first quarter. I am confident that the début of Audi Q3 this year will not only ensure that Audi maintains its position as the fastest growing luxury car brand in India but also boost our sales. As we inch closer to the pole position, we will continually enhance and diversify our product portfolio offering our brand promise “Vorsprung durch Technik” and further expand our dealership network.”

He further clarified, “The overall market scenario is challenging. The rising fuel prices, depreciating rupee, changing registration taxes in various states as well as reduction in retail loans have severely impacted the automobile industry but in spite of these challenges we are confident about our growth in India. With a slew of new product launches – Audi TT in March, new Audi A4 in May and Audi Q3 in June, we are still maintaining our forecast and will achieve our sales target of 8000 cars for 2012.”

With an impressive line-up, the company retained its top position in Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment of the domestic market. In SUV segment, Audi’s product portfolio includes Audi Q5 and Q7, whereas its sports car segment includes Audi R8, RS5 and newly launched Audi TT Coupe. Besides, the company has also planned to introduce a new SUV, Q3 in the market which is likely to further consolidate its position in the Indian market.

From the present network of 19 authorised dealerships, the German brand is looking at taking the dealerships count to 25 by this year end. Coimbatore, Delhi West, Nagpur and a second outlet in state capital of Madhya Pradesh were recently inaugurated by the company. Prior to this, the company opened its showrooms in South Delhi, Chennai, Ludhiana, Surat and Indore, last year. However, the company can also mark its presence in Lucknow and Mumbai South, as well, amongst other options, in future.

New Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8L, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi RS5 Coupé and Audi TT, forms company's portfolio in India. The super sports car Audi R8 and the Audi R8 Spyder is also on offer in the Indian auto market. All the mentioned cars are available for sale in, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi South, Delhi West, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Bhopal, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai West, Nagpur, Pune and Surat.
