      Renault unveils the 2017 Clio

Renault has updated their best-selling hatchback, the Renault Clio. The facelift comes four years after the launch of the fourth generation Clio in 2012. The Clio was the first car to showcase the French car maker’s new design language and the update continues on similar lines.

First introduced in 1990, the Clio helped Renault re-establish itself in the European market. The horizontally slatted grille across the front fascia is now pronounced and houses the diamond-shaped logo. The LED daytime-running lamps embedded in the grille have moved into the headlamp cluster which features LED projectors. The air dam has grown wider and the round fog-lamps have been ditched for the more stylish rectangular ones with chrome accents.

The overall body-shell remains the same including the flared wheel arches and the window-mounted rear door handles on the side profile. The tail lamps are larger and get more black accents with reworked internals. The new five-spoke alloys look ravishing. The interiors have been retained as is but freshly upholstered. The twin pod instrument cluster with the digital insert, the display screen for the infotainment system, the centre console and even the round AC vents have been carried over.

The new Clio is powered by the 108bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged dCi diesel engine that we have on the Renault Duster in India. The diesel engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. It also gets the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine which develops 117bhp of power and 190Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
