The entry level hatchbacks have been a major contributor to sales numbers reported by carmakers in India. None other than Maruti Suzuki's Alto has stood testimony to Indian customers demand to drive home a small affordable car. In an attempt to move ahead with times, Maruti Suzuki had launched the Alto 800 with an all new design, that comes as a replacement to the decade old sibbling. This time around Renault has launched its very own affordable small car named Kwid, that takes on the Alto 800 headstrong.
Both the cars - Maruto Alto 800 and Renault Kwid share a 800cc engine under the hood. The Kwid effectively generates about 54bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. The fairly powered motor comes mated to five-speed manual transmission and delivers a decent fuel efficieny figure of about 25.17km/l. The Alto 800 on the other hand generates about 47bhp and 69Nm of torque. The vehicle comes mated to five speed manual transmission and returns 22.74 km/l in petrol, while CNG returns about 30.46km/kg. In terms of dimensions the Kwid measures 3679mm in length, 1579mm in height, 1471mm in width and wheelbase of 2422mm. The Alto 800 on the other hand measures 3395 mm in length, Height of about 1475 mm, 1490 mm width and wheelbase of 2360 mm.
In terms of features and styling, the Kwid offers a better package with features like digital instrument cluster across all models, while the higher models also come with driver side airbags and 7-inch touch-screen navigation system. The Alto 800 is available in four trims namely – STD, LX, LXi and VXi with prices starting from Rs 2,56,311 (Ex-showroom Delhi), while the Kwid is offered 6 variants - Std, RXE, RXE (O), RXL, RXT and RXT (O), with prices starting at Rs 2,56,968 (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
