Marking the completion of the initial prototypes, Porsche AG has conducted the driving tests of the 918 Spyder. Manufacturing of the alleged super sports car of the future will begin by September 2013 and by the end of the year, customer will start receiving the models.

A member of the Executive Board Research and Development, Porsche AG, Wolfgang Hatz said, “What we are doing with the 918 Spyder is redefining driving fun, efficiency and performance.” Similar to the historical Porsche 917 racing cars, the 918 Spyder gets the final touches from its predecessors.

The coordination between the high end individual drive components remains the Porsche's major concern. The car houses a combustion engine along with two independent electric motors. On the front axle of the car, one motor is fitted whereas other is positioned on the drive line, acting on the rear wheels. Hatz says, “They are therefore a critical component in this vehicle into which we have put all of our expertise and capacity for innovation.”

Operating plans and developing of the software to assist the same remain the German car maker's exclusive skill. The new operating strategies and the complimenting software of 918 Spyder enhances driving experience. The combination also ensures maximum performance and higher mileage. Outcomes of the primary driving tests are in sync with the expectations invested on the super sports car.

The car will be introduced as a plug-in hybrid model. It combines a high performance engine with advanced electric motors to make sure that a brilliant performance is attained. Engine powering the car delivers 770 hp and an incredible mileage of 33.33 kmpl.

The full carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque with unit carrier, fully adaptive aerodynamics, adaptive rear-axle steering and the upward-venting “top pipes” exhaust system in the model gives the glimpse of what future will be like with Porsche Intelligent Performance.
