Porsche Panamera's second-generation model spied on test

Porsche will present the second-gen Panamera at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. A test mule of the same was spotted testing near Weissach in Germany along with a Turbo variant.

The redesigned Panamera borrows styling cues from its predecessor, but looks better than it. Apart from the makeshift headlamps and tail lamps, which will be replaced by more evolutionary ones, the car also gets LED turn indicators. The standard car (one in black) gets a sculpted hood, revised front fender vents and tweaked door mounted ORVMs. The sportier roofline, muscular rear fenders and a sporty dual exhaust system add to the appeal of the car.

The Turbo version (blue car) gets sportier components including a high performance braking system with yellow brake calipers. The sporty quotient is upped by the four-tailpipe exhaust system.

Porsche is still tight-lipped about the engine options for this car. We can expect a variety of engine options including an entry-level V6 mill, mid-range V8 engine and a 4.0-litre V8 engine powering the Turbo. Additionally, there will be a diesel-powered variant and another plug-in hybrid model.

This latest iteration of the Panamera will make for a sleek and purposeful machine. It has now become lighter and even more agile, all thanks to the brand's new MSB platform. This incorporates the use of aluminium, lightweight composites and high-strength steel. While the standard version will mark its debut this year, the Turbo variant will premiere at the Geneva Motor show next year. Both these models will come to India through the CBU route following its launch globally.
