Nissan North America Inc. (NNA), only days before celebrating the first anniversary of the world's first delivery of Nissan LEAF on 11th December, has expanded the availability of its electric vehicle in the US market. The revolutionary Japan-made Nissan LEAF has become the first and only all-electric vehicle in the world available for the mass market.

Nissan LEAF has garnered many accolades in the past one year, in the form of international awards to jaw-dropping one-year sales figures crossing 20,000 units. Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, NNA, Brian Carolin says, “Nissan LEAFs have been on the U.S. roads for one year now, and thousands of drivers have become living proof that a 100-percent electric, zero-emissions vehicle fulfils the daily needs of drivers from all walks of life.”

On Tuesday, 6th December, Nissan North America re-opened LEAF reservations and is taking orders from buyers for the 2012 Nissan LEAF in Delaware, Indiana, Louisiana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. The 2012 Nissan LEAF has been given several advancements like additional standard equipment which includes quick charging and cold weather features. Moreover, the deliveries of the 2012 Nissan LEAF is expected to commence from 2012 spring.

Talking about the market expansion for Nissan LEAF, Carolin added, “We are seeing already-strong interest in the LEAF continue to grow across the country. This market expansion brings us one step closer to true, nationwide availability.”

The award-winning five-door electric hatchback was introduced to Japanese and American consumers in December 2010. Being a completely electric vehicle, Nissan LEAF does not generate any tailpipe pollution or greenhouse gas emission. Moreover, it minimises car user’s dependence on petrol.

Owing to its vast popularity and environment friendly nature, LEAF has achieved many laurels which include awards like the 2010 Green Car Vision Award, 2011 European Car of the Year award and 2011 World Car of the Year. Recently, Nissan LEAF received Car of the Year Japan award for 2011-2012.

The expanding market for Nissan LEAF in America is testimony to the new growing trend of environment friendly electric vehicles.
