After much hype and anticipation, Honda City diesel has finally been revealed in New Delhi. Earlier, there were speculations as to what the vehicle will look like and offer to customers in addition to what is being provided by the company in currently available City. As such, this newly revealed fourth generation Honda City boasts of several improvements over its sibling, but the most significant change comes in the form of a powerful and highly fuel efficient diesel engine. Hironori Kanayama, President and Chief Executive Officer, Honda Cars India, gave some insight into the unveiling of next generation City in the Indian automobile market. He reportedly said, “Honda was at a disadvantage in this segment without the diesel technology. Now we are confident of bringing a lot of customers back to our fold.”

The company officials have also confirmed that this new mid-size sedan will be launched in India in early January 2014. With a diesel engine, Honda City now has a chance to offer a tough competition to Hyundai Verna. Interestingly, as per claims of the auto company, City happens to be the widest car in its segment. Also, City is one of the best selling cars of the auto company and has already accumulated sales of over 430,000 units. Thus, with a new diesel engine, as many industry experts forecast, this sedan is now all set to see an increase in sales volume. The petrol version of this next generation model will continue to be powered by a slightly tweaked 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol engine while the diesel version will make use of a 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine, which is found in Honda Amaze. Like the petrol, the diesel engine is slightly refined to deliver a better performance and enhanced fuel economy.

The new Honda City offers more space for improved comfort levels. It holds sharp front facade and crease lines on its both sides to make for an appealing appearance. The wheelbase of this vehicle is now 2600 mm after getting an extension of 50 mm. The height has been increased by 10 mm at 1495 mm. The width of this recently revealed sedan is also more at 1695 mm. Simply put in words, this will ensure more space in the cabin and highly befitting leg room at the rear row.
