The next generation BMW X3 will be unveiled at a function at their USA plant tomorrow and ahead of the debut, an image of the car has been leaked onto the internet. Dubbed the 2018 BMW X3, it’s the third generation for the car and appears to be the most comprehensive update for the SUV.
As expected, this new X3, sports an evolutionary design and now has more of an SUV look as compared to the crossover leanings of the outgoing model. The car appears to have grown both in terms of length and width, giving it a defining silhouette. The car in the photos is an M140i and so has the sporty bumpers, new tail lamps and dual exhausts. It also gets the M-spec wheels which add to the sporty appearance.
The cabin is standard BMW fare, but we suspect that it will be offered with a new infotainment system and chrome bits for the cabin which enhance its premium factor. The pictures tell us that the car can be had either with black or brown interiors although it is possible that the range will be much wider and be market dependent.
It will be offered with a range of petrol and diesel engines and in the case of the car in the photos, it is a range topping X3 M140i, a 3.0-litre twin turbo unit which is expected to produce close 400bhp. Also expect an announcement on hybrid engines as well as an all-electric version of the SUV sometime in the future.
As we have said before, this X3 is coming to India and will arrive here through the CKD route, where it will be put together at BMW’s plant outside Chennai.
