      New Plans from Honda for the Indian Car Market

      Honda is planning to launch its small car in India by 2009. It is gettingready with its small car – Jazz, to introduce the same in the Indian market. Honda Siel Cars shall be manufacturing the small car at its plant in Takapura in Rajasthan. This model is already quite successful in other countries where it has been launched like Europe, North America, Latin America and some parts of Asia including Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. However, India shall have to wait for the same till next year.

      It is also planning to launch a diesel version of its models in India. It has currently taken up a feasibility to study which model would be the best to introduce in the Indian car market. According to President and CEO of Honda Siel Cars, “We are aware of the wide usage of diesel vehicles in India and the option is open. We are studying the diesel 2.4-litre 100 bhp engine and also the 3.5-litre V6 diesel in some of the overseas markets. These engines can only be used in larger cars. It will be still some time before we introduce diesel cars here”.

      Honda has recently launched its eight generation Accord in India and very soon plans to launch the hybrid Civic on the Indian roads. Honda is gearing up to increase not only its product portfolio but also its dealer network. It plans to grab the growing auto market share in the country.
