At the 2014 Auto Expo held in February this year, BMW showcased third generation X5 SUV which is being developed under the codename F15. Speculations are doing the rounds that BMW could launch the refreshed version of SUV soon in the domestic market. BMW was expected to launch new X5 SUV in India by third quarter, however now it is being rumoured that the launch has been pre-ponedtowards the end of second quarter. Just a few days ago, BMW removed X5 from its official website inferring at the launch being rescheduled.
The descendant model of SUV will be a metamorphosed version of its forerunner. New X5 besides being larger than the outgoing version is also lighter as compared to its predecessor. BMW will offer upgraded X5 in five and seven seat layout, revivification has also been done in the interiors classing up the cabin.
Speculations suggest that new X5 could borrow a 258 Bhp, 3.0 litre oil burner from 530d and 730d saloons. However the X5 variant exhibited at the 12th edition of Auto Expo dubbed X5 xDrive25d, sported a 2.0 litre, 218 Bhp diesel powertrain. This engine currently powers BMW 525d sedan.
Bookings have also commenced for the new X5, prospective dealers can rush to the nearest BMW dealers to book the saloon. Deliveries will start after the launch of SUV in India towards the end of second quarter. A hypothetical price of Rs 70 lakh is being speculated for BMW five seat basic version, on the other hand, the top-of-the-line seven seat 3.0 litre variant could cost Rs 5 lakh pricier than the basic trim.
BMW lately launched new M6 Gran coupe in India at a starting price of Rs 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). M6 Gran Coupe is the performance oriented edition of 6 Series Gran Coupe which is also present in India for sale. M6 Gran Coupe is offered in India as a CKD.
