MSIhas started new fiscal on a low note, the company registered drop in monthly sales by 5.5 % in the month of March, 2014. In March 2014,MSIsold 1,13,350 units as compared to 1,19,937 units sold in March 2013. MSI’s domestic sales fell by 5.2 % in March 2014 at 1,02,269 units, in the same time period last year the company sold 1,07,890 units.
Maruti’s small car segment which comprise of cars like M800, Alto, A-Star andWagonR, accounted for 40,085 units as against 45,047 units in March 2013 witnessing a drop in sales by 11%. On the contrary, company’s compact segment saw rise in sales by 9.3 % at 28,285 units as compared to 25,868 units in March last year. The compact segment includes cars like Swift,Estiloand Ritz.
Surprisingly, the compact sedan segment which has on offer SwiftDzirefell by 14.1% last month with 17,2397 units sold as compared to 20,078 units sold in the same time last year. With just 411 units of Maruti’s mid-sized sedan SX4 sold last month as compared to 903 units in the same month a year ago, sedan’s sales witnessed drop of 54.5%.Marutiis said to be replacing SX4 with its new offeringCiazexpected to launch in India in July.
The company failed to sell a single unit ofKizashiin March 2014. On the back ofErtiga, company’s UV segment saw a minor growth at 6,499 units as against 6,488 units sold in March 2013. MSI’s UV segment includes cars like Gypsy, GrandVitaraandErtiga. Sales ofOmniandEecovans increased by 2.6 % last month at 9,752 units as against 9,506 units sold in the corresponding month last year. On the export front too, the company faced disappointment with 11,081 units shipped to overseas markets last month as compared to 12,047 units exported in March 2013.
