Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is looking forward to introduce its Ecocar Mirage in India. At the Bangkok Motor Show, the company has launched the new Mirage Ecocar on 20th March 2012. “Our goal in designing the Mirage was to make a vehicle that could balance high performance and functionality by painstaking reduction in weight through almost every part of the car, down to the smallest part,” said Osamu Masuko, president of Mitsubishi Motors Corp.

Targeted primarily for the Indian market, the 1.2 litre Mirage hatchback can accommodate 5 passengers comfortably. This compact car is reported to deliver mileage of 22 kmpl, which is highly impressive.

Masahika Ueki, Mitsubishi’s Executive Officer and Corporate General Manager of Asia and Asean said that the company is planning to set up second production unit in India. According to him, the company will consider Indonesia and Malaysia before setting up the manufacturing plant in India.

He confirmed that no final decision has been taken by the company to introduce the small car Mirage in India. Masahika Ueki disclosed that the Mitsubishi is deciding whether to launch the Ecocar Mirage alone or in partnership with Hindustan Motors. In India, Mitsubishi has various models, which includes Pajero Sport and Outlander in the SUV segment and Cedia in the Sedan Segment.
