Volkswagen Jetta, one of the popular premium sedans in the country, will soon be available in the Indian market in a petrol version very soon. Volkswagen India is all set to launch the Volkswagen Jetta 1.4L TSI petrolversion next month. So far, the Volkswagen Jetta model has been only available in diesel version, since its launch in the country in August 2011.

The other Volkswagen Group cars like Skoda Laura and Superb model have been offered in a 1.8 TSI petrol engine, and the same engine was expected to be offered in the petrol version of the car. However, the with the skyrocketing petrol prices in the Indian market, the company has decided to offer a more fuel efficient option to the Indian buyers with 1.4-litre TSI petrol power train.

Being not available in the petrol version, the Jetta sedan has been left behind in the competition from the likes of Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis Petrol and Renault Fluence petrol version. But now as the car will be offered in both petrol and diesel versions, it will compete more promptly with its rivals.

However, with Jetta available in more fuel efficient 1.4-litre TSI petrol power train, there will also be a fear of cannibalization of the sales of its siblings like Skoda Laura and Superb, which are still available in a 1.8 TSI petrol engine version.
