2013 saw Mercedes-Benz connecting with customers through its new product offerings and initiatives to enhance the ownership experience. Eberhard Kern, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz India reportedly said on the company's achievements in 2013, “We are very satisfied with our performance in 2013 which we called the ‘Year of Offensive’. We are happy that our New A-Class, New E-Class and the SUV portfolio saw robust demand amidst challenging market conditions. Our consumers have clearly appreciated our initiatives and we enter 2014 with a clear promise of delivering 'Excellence'.”

Clearly, as hinted by the top boss, in 2014 too, the brand with three pointed star would be trying to further add to its momentum gained. The auto company would start this new year on a high note by revealing a smart watch that can communicate with the car, boosting owners' driving experience. According to a report published in Autocar, this device has been fabricated by Pebble Technology under the new technical tie-up with Mercedes-Benz and will be showcased at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas during mid-January.

This smart watch is able to coordinate with Mercedes-Benz’s existing Digital DriveStyle app and comes up as ‘second display’ for a smart phone. The person wearing this watch can get informations even when away from the car. One can also configure this watch to give out signals during accidents, road works and other obstructions. Buttons of this watch can be easily used to activate various Digital DriveStyle features like reporting hazards, auto-routing, Siri activation, remote-controlling media and getting information on nearby traffic conditions. Furthermore, this unique gadget can display information about the car’s fuel level, location and door-lock status.

Industry experts are of a view that the partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Pebble Technology is going to be crucial for the German car maker. It will give the auto company an access to a pool of technologies that will help its future models to get fully integrated with devices like watches, laptops and smart phones.
