The iconic luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz has announced its plans to introduce more hybrid vehicles in future. The company said that it is looking ahead to further increase its range of hybrid cars, in addition to its premium models like E-Class and S-Class. In a recent statement, the company said “The Mercedes-Benz hybrid system is modular and scalable in design, and can be applied to numerous model series. In the coming years, in line with the timing of new model introductions, there will be numerous new hybrid models.”

Further adding to the above statement, Thomas Weber, the Member of Daimler AG was quoted as saying, “For us, the future of mobility has long centred on electrification. With a total of nine locally emission-free vehicles with battery or fuel cell power, Daimler AG already has the widest range of electric vehicles on the road. We are very pleased that our German competitors are bringing even more impetus to electric mobility with their own first electric vehicles.”

While the company refrained from giving any further information on the topic, a little was told about upcoming hybrids, which will feature four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. In addition to the above announcement, the brand with three pointed star said that its new S500 plug-in Hybrid will be available by 2014, which will have an estimated fuel consumption of less than four litres per 100 km. The six-cylinder petrol engine, which has an electric motor, can produce a maximum power output of 333 bhp while reaching a torque of up to 480 Nm. As reported, this luxurious hybrid sedan will debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, which is scheduled to be held in September 2013.

Recently, a number of individuals are looking towards using electric vehicles all over the world and therefore, every car maker is trying to develop an alternative technology apart from traditional sources of fuel. It must be noted that hybrid vehicles uses two or more different sources of power to generate the power. These type of cars are equipped with internal combustion engine, which works primarily in addition to an electric motor. Interestingly, Toyota Prius has been the front runner for Hybrid vehicles when it comes to talking about sales figures.
