Mercedes-Benz has launched the S63 AMG Coupe, one of their most expensive coupes, for a price tag of Rs 2.55 crore, ex-showroom India. Based on the S-Class platform, the S-Coupe is a two-door four-seat shorter avatar of the S-Class saloon and the sportiest iteration of Mercedes-Benz.

      Mercedes S63 AMG

At the heart of the S63 Coupe is the AMG 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 petrol engine that also powers the bonkers AMG GT. As a result, this car puts out 612 bhp of power and a whopping 900Nm of torque. Mated to the 9-speed dual-clutch Speedshift transmission, the S63 Coupe is rear-wheel drive. The 0-100kmph dash is done within 3.5 seconds and the top-speed is electronically limited to 250kmph.

This S63, as a part of the facelift, gets the sportier Panamericana grille, the new AMG signature. The headlamps have also been tweaked and the spindle-like bumper design makes its way to the S-Coupe now. Needless to say, you have options of choosing between a newer set of alloys.

Inside, the opulence of the S-Class is blended well with the Spartan style of AMG. Besides the Nappa leather-wrapped bucket seats, there are carbon fibre inlays on door trims, the centre console and the dashboard to keep the weighing scale in check. Three-zone climate control, electric sunroof, ventilated seats, heated cup-holders and all the bells and whistles that mark the S-Class have been retained.

In terms of competition, the only car that comes close to being an equal rival is the Bentley Continental GT. But in terms of price, you have a bunch of performance options to compare with, like the Porsche 911, the Jaguar F-Type SVR, Aston Martin DB9 and the Maserati Gran Cabrio.
